Website Evaluation

I have looked at www.wordnik.com and analysed the websites strengths and weaknesses. Wordnik appears to be an online dictionary whereby users are able to find definitions to specific words and can also find examples of their searched word.
In order to be able to discuss your views on the topic you must sign up. if you choose to sign up to the website you are then able to post your own comments. However, as anybody is able to post their own definition it may lead to unreliable data and inevitably inaccuracy.
The website may be useful to learners of all standards as the definitions are sometimes simple and sometimes highly detailed which will help the higher education student. I do believe that the variations are a strong point of the website as it does make the website accessible to all who need it. The website can also be appropriate for all environments and may be used by parents to get involved in a child's learning experience.
Although the website is not as bright and attractive as other educational websites, wordnik is a valuable website to all ages and all learning abilities.

Technology

Help or Hinder?

Many people debate whether technology promotes education or actually prevents education. It could be said that frequency and the type of equipment are the most important factor in this argument. I will look at different pieces of technology and speak my views on them.

iPad
The iPad can be a positive contributor towards education. The iPad provides users with an application store which includes various education tools. Also, the iPad promotes interactive learning which can be enjoyable for a child.

Xbox
An Xbox is not directly linked to learning but is a piece of technology which can have a major influence on a child's learning ability. The average teenage boy will have an Xbox or a different game console and they will spend a considerable amount of time on them. This will no doubt have a negative impact on learning as you are spending less time on education.

The rapid growth of technology can be used to your advantage or disadvantage, I believe it is up to the learner how they use these tools.

Future Prospects

What does the future hold?

I always ask myself the question, what does my future hold? Well it's a fairly difficult question with so many paths to take. After America I would like to return to my studies at university so I will have a degree behind me. As for spending the rest of my life in Swansea, I'm not to sure about that!
Ideally I would love nothing better than to take my qualification to the other side of the world along with my family and set up a base away from home. But who knows? I don't think you can plan your future as you miss out on everyday fun. There will always be options if you work hard enough so I believe its just a case of making the right one!

Kansas City

So its getting close, with only 4 weeks to wait the nerves and excitement are kicking in! Flights must be booked and spending money must be sorted so the mad rush has started!
Playing rugby away from home is always something I have dreamed of doing, but now that its becoming a reality that I have to leave so many home comforts the decision suddenly became so much more difficult.
So with only 4 weeks to go I think its time to get saving and get prepared for the states!

SNOW!

SNOW DAY!
Love it or hate it there's just nothing like a good snow day! For adults its a day off work, for children its a day off school. What more can you ask for?
However, snow does not appeal to all. For companies who rely heavily on deliveries it can cause a disruption in business and from my past experiences the snow can also have a big impact on sport.
Today's snow is only doing one thing, stopping me from doing any revision! You just can't help but get your hat, scarf and gloves on and get out on your sledge. Whether you spend it with the family or friends your guaranteed a few laughs and smiles.

All Saints

All Saints Clothing

I use the Allsaints website often and find it a very useful electronic point of sale. Allsaints is becoming more popular brand everyday and their website meets the demands of the customers.

What is good?
  • Allsaints allow customers to pay for their goods in both euros and sterling pounds so this means the website is available to all consumers in Europe.
  • The website also allows customers to operate in many different languages which enhances custmer satisfaction.
  • The website works under strict privacy so keeps all customers confidential and is highly secure with payment details.
What can be improved?
  • The website is not very colourful so viewers may not be attracted when looking at the page. However, simple colours are a feature of allsaints.

Educational Blog - The Guardian

Educational Blog

The Guardian - Mortarboard Blog

This blog appealed to me for a number of different reasons. The fact that it looks at various different types of students and their different issues is interesting as it allows you to analyse many of the students everyday problems from primary school to university. Also, this blog does not only look at educational issues it also allows students to post their views regarding issues such as poverty, drugs and alcohol. The mortarboard blog gives tips for students of all backrounds so is very useful to everyone. The blog ask students for their opinions so this influences debate and allows students to speak their thoughts further. The use of images on the blog means that students are able to gain more of an idea for the topic. For these reasons I believe the mortarboard is a useful blog.
